3 PLANS: Clutter-Free!

Hi Manoj,

Remember the storage plans we talked about earlier this week for National Get Organized Month?

We're tackling every corner of your home, including the often-forgotten garage and shed.

So, let's say goodbye to tangled Christmas lights and precariously stacked ladders and hello to organization for your outdoor essentials.

A clutter-free space is a happy space, and these projects will help you reclaim those valuable square feet.

I'm also kicking off a new "Behind the Scenes" series below, and stay tuned for a new project plan next week!

Behind the Scenes 🎬

For 2024, I'm launching a new exclusive series for my dedicated newsletter subscribers called "Behind the Scenes," showcasing what it takes to bring you a project—essentially pulling back the curtain on what other content creators might not show you.

I thought I would kick off the series with why I photograph nearly all of my recent projects, like this bedside table on a white shiplap wall.

Early on, one of the things I struggled with was photographing my projects. They always looked dark and dingy. In 2019, I attended a multi-week photography class at my local arts center. The instructor helped me understand my DSLR camera and the importance of lighting.

One of the many things I learned was that my house didn't have enough light to create beautiful photos.

The lighting struggle led me to transform a wall in my garage's storage area into a makeshift "photo studio."

To maximize the brightness, I painted the walls and ceiling white and added visual texture with a shiplap wall made from ⅛-inch lauan.

A large window at the opposite end and four LED shop lights on the ceiling flood the space with light. I built two floor-to-ceiling light boxes to enhance visibility further, illuminating projects from the side.

This space is anything but dim! Stay tuned for a closer look at one of my newest projects photographed in the "studio" in the next Behind the Scenes.

Of course, it's never entirely successful, but honestly, there's something magical when Costco brazenly sets up ceramic nativity sets alongside plastic witches' cauldrons in September. At this very moment, it's an overcast, blustery afternoon, prompting Cobra's first seasonal race to his " Inclement Weather Platform." It's a particular platform he retreats to when the weather is even the slightest bit disagre

Thank you all for your feedback on last month's massive Holiday Extravaganza issue. I really enjoyed all of your responses (read some of them later in this issue) to my nostalgic recollection of my year spent working at a movie theater. I think we're all recovering from the holidays, so I'll keep this issue a little shorter! In last year's January issue, I talked about setting resolutions for the new year. Allow me to follow up. I wrote: Setting a resolution is an opportunity to assess our general intentions for self improvement and share those feelings with others. The act of simp
